Wayne, I certainly hope this post was not the eulogy for your series of stories. I enjoyed your stories far too much.

If it is the end, thank you so much for posting them. They have been fascinating insights on a fascinating person. I look forward to your future works.

Wayne, what a great story. Key West is one of my favorite places on Earth and I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall with you, HST and the crew. After reading the 'Gonzo' photo essay book, I wish I could see more images of his earlier time spent in the Keys.

An aside - after buying "Breakfast With Hunter" for my buddy a few years ago and enjoying it together, I finally bought myself a copy! It's too great not to have my own. Can't wait for Part Deux!

Dear Wayne,

I came across this entry on Marty's site, hstbooks--where last summer I had an interview and more recently a piece as part of his HST for beginners series. I was the dancer who performed in the gorilla costume and went to the dinner at Tommy's that you describe. I remember the wild car ride, too. I used to often do the show with a beautiful young brunette dancer named Bambi--but she was the victim, not the gorilla.

I was a girlfriend of Artie's, kept a journal, and a couple of years ago finally got my book into print, titled 9 1/2 Years Behind the Green Door--it's on Amazon, but I would be happy to send you a copy if you like. My website, www.greendoorbook.com, also includes sample chapters. When I talked with Hunter after the show that night, he had hoped for more violence in the show--which really wasn't my intent or possible.

The pool room where Hunter held forth as Night Manager also served as Artie and Jim's office. I was around during part of the ill-fated The Crazy Never Die production by the Mitchells. I loved your film Breakfast with Hunter, and also your written work on Marty's HSTbooks, and will follow your work.

Wishing you the best, and Merry Christmas,

Simone

Thanks, Sincity. Re "The Rum Diary" Hunter struggled to get the book made into a movie and I followed quite a bit of that with my camera. But, at the time he died, the film project wasn't moving forward very quickly. I don't think he ever saw the Bruce Robinson script, and am not sure it was even written at that point. Hard to say what Hunter would think, except he had great respect for Johnny Depp, and would trust him to do right by his baby. Books are always changed in translation to the screen. Let's hope for the better!

I have loved reading all your insights so far.
I would be very interested in whatever Hunter had to say re The Rum Diary. I hear the movie that has been filmed is not exactly the same as the book, characters lost, added, different added story lines. Would love to know if before Hunter died he knew about the changes that were going to be made or if you know anything of why the changes have been been.
